(Fort McMurray) Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Syncrude are proud to announce the 10th nominee for the Women of Inspiration series 2014-2015:

Angela Ross

Angela is a local woman – who along with her 5 siblings was born and raised in Fort McMurray. Angela earned her journey person trade certificate as a millwright – demonstrating her sense of adventure in entering a male dominated trade.. Angela’s passion changed once she had her 4 children and she decided to pursue a career in human services. Her drive to help others in need lead her to attend training in Indigenous Addictions Counselling offered at Nechi Institute in St. Albert. She excelled and went on to graduate with a Social Work Diploma from Keyano College. She applies valuable cultural teachings and techniques specific to counselling in evaluating needs, developing treatment plans, advocating and counselling in a compassionate manner. Her focus is the indigenous people here in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Angela believes that people have the ability to overcome adversities given proper encouragement and direction.

Angela has positively impacted aboriginal communities in RMWB through completion in programs concerning Elder Abuse, Cultural Violence and Residential School. She runs workshops in all of these and builds positively relationships with all of her clients.

In her spare time Angela is very involved with her community and volunteers with the homeless count in the region, fundraising for the Nistawyou Friendship Centre, helps with the Salvation Army Christmas initiatives as well as works with the Boys and Girls Club and specifically volunteers with Girl Power and Mega Boys. Last but not least Angela is involved with the local United Way.

Angela‘s experience is enhanced through her upbringing, aboriginal heritage, and raising her family in Fort McMurray. She has a life- long interest in learning and in supporting others to help them reach their personal success. Angela is Strong, Smart and Bold and drives positive change for women and girls in RMWB.Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Syncrude will honour Angela and 11 other nominees, at the Women of Inspiration Celebration which will take place June 21st, 2015.

The Women of Inspiration is a partnership between Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Syncrude, with a goal to recognize women throughout the Wood Buffalo region who inspire others, break new ground or old barriers and help create change. The series also aims to show local girls positive role models who live right here.
