Fort McMurray, Alberta – September 06, 2024 – Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta is thrilled to announce the tremendous success of its 30th Annual Golf Tournament Fore Girls Inc., presented by Imperial, held on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at the Fort McMurray Golf Club.

This year, we took positive neon risks by launching the first-ever family-friendly golf tournament in the community. The event brought together over 100 golfers and volunteers, including 17 junior golfers aged 5-16, for a vibrant day of golf, fun, and community support.

This year’s theme, “Back to the 80s: Take Positive Neon Risks,” added a fun and colourful twist to the event, emphasizing the importance of embracing positive risks — an essential part of the Girls Inc. experience. The tournament began with a blessing by Knowledge Keeper Robert Cree, who also enjoyed a family day on the course, setting the tone for an inclusive and family-oriented event. Golfers enjoyed program “sneak peek” opportunities, such as the Economic Literacy Table, Warm Up Station, and Back to the 80s Media Scavenger Hunt.

“We are grateful for being able to take positive risks for achieving greater good together with continued and emerging support from our community,” said Nanase Tonda, Executive Director, Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta. “We would like to express our gratitude for the overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants regarding the change, which underscores the impact of this unique, mission-driven event in our community.”

“We are proud to support Girls Inc. as the Presenting Sponsor of this year’s golf tournament. At Imperial, we believe in empowering young women to take ‘Positive Neon Risks’ and reach their full potential. Girls Inc. embodies this mission by providing invaluable resources and opportunities. This event not only brings our community together but also helps to inspire and uplift the next generation of leaders,” said Hanna Janzen, Kearl Operations Support Manager, Imperial. “We are excited to see the positive impact this support will have on the lives of many young women.”

Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved in the event, it raised $16.7K in proceeds, which will directly benefit Girls Inc. girls and programming in the Wood Buffalo region. This success not only allows the organization to keep offering programs that are 100% cost-free but also brings the community together to celebrate the strength and potential that all girls have in themselves.
