Canadian Anishinaabe activist, artist and television host Sarain Fox comes to Fort McMurray

Fort McMurray, AB (December 13, 2021) — Sarain Fox, Indigenous youth empowerment activist, host of RISE on Viceland and Future History on APTN, will headline VOICES: Women of Inspiration Celebration 2022 at MacDonald Island on March 19, 2022, presented by Bouchier, in support of Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta.

Sarain Fox is a Canadian Anishinaabe activist and artist who creates meaningful dialogue between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. She is a storyteller with a message of claiming and using your voice. Growing up, Sarain says she didn’t see people like her in mainstream media. Now, while overcoming incredible barriers, that is beginning to change.

Among many meaningful achievements, Sarain was the first Indigenous person to star in Canada Goose’s Holiday campaign and she starred in Sephora’s “It’s the Beauty You Give” campaign. When she isn’t filming, she is travelling the world as a speaker and activist amplifying the voices of Indigenous communities and youth.

“Bouchier is honoured to be presenting sponsor of an event that promotes empowering women and using your voice. It is so fitting that this year’s theme is Voices as we will be hosting Sarain Fox. Sarain has been using her voice to spread awareness of Indigenous culture and create dialogue between Non – Indigenous and Indigenous peoples.” — Nicole Bourque Bouchier, Bouchier CEO & Co-Owner

VOICES: Women of Inspiration Celebration 2022 is dedicated to recognizing and honouring the women in our region who break gender stereotypes, drive positive change and advocate for rights and opportunities of women and girls. The hybrid-model event, which will be available in-person and online, will highlight how each of the Women of Inspiration nominees have found, developed and used their voices in different ways. Guests across the region will be invited to amplify ‘voices’ behind diversity, equity and inclusivity while celebrating Women’s History Month, building upon the momentum of the last two years in whatever way is comfortable and safe for them.

“We are thrilled and honoured to amplify voices together with Sarain Fox, Bouchier and the five nominees — who truly believe in what we do and stand with us in advancing gender equality.

In 2020, we ‘shattered’ the (in)visible barriers, stereotypes and obstacles surrounding the everyday life of girls and women. In 2021, we brought those shattered pieces together to create a ‘mosaic’ to act towards a more diverse, equitable and inclusive society. In 2022, we amplify one another’s VOICES represented in the mosaic. Voices are an instrument for change. They allow us to share our stories, knowledge, wisdom and to advocate, and empower one another – individually and collectively. Together, let’s discover, use and act on our own voices. Together, let’s listen to and learn from one another’s voices. We hope to see a wide range of guests from various backgrounds come together in various forms to share a unique, powerful and inspirational moment together, so we can see what we can be. Together, we can amplify.” — Nanase Tonda, Executive Director of Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta

Immersed in an inspirational keynote presentation coupled with one of a kind dance performance by Sarain Fox on the topic of ‘voices’ and an engaging Q&A discussion joined by the Women of Inspiration Nominees around how we can act to amplify our voices and move towards a diverse, equitable and inclusive society where all girls can thrive to be agents of change.

While in-person guests will enjoy a delicious meal, welcome drinks, auctions and various lineups of activities like women-in-business bazaar, photobooth, scavenger hunt, mini games and more, guests participating virtually will share the moment via livestream, interactive content and at-home celebration kits.

Leading up to VOICES: Women of Inspiration Celebration on March 19, 2022, the organization will commemorate International Women’s Day through youth-focused programming on March 8, 2022.
