(Fort McMurray, AB) Girls in the Wood Buffalo region have an opportunity to learn about bullying and personal safety thanks to two new programs through Girls Inc of Northern Alberta.

The first program is part of a 14-week series called “Allies in Action”, and focuses on bullying prevention. Kicking off this Saturday, March 18th; the program will explore healthy relationships with peers, friends, parents, teachers, coaches and more. It also opens the discussion on messages girls are receiving in the media and how it relates to bullying. The “Allies in Action” series is for girls aged 11 to 15 years old, and will be held on Saturdays from 1 to 3 o clock at the Girls Inc of Northern Alberta downtown location.

The second program is a one day workshop called “Girls Beware” which will be held at the Hub Family Resource Centre in Timberlea, and centres on personal safety. There will be presenters from victim services, the RCMP of Wood Buffalo, and presentations on self defence, should the girls ever be faced with an attacker. The workshop is for girls aged 12 to 17 years old and is being held on Sunday, March 20th.

Both programs are being offered free of charge, however registration by giving the Girls Inc of Northern Alberta office a call is required.
