A group of young girls in the Wood Buffalo region have been preparing for the Fort McMurray Marathon.
Since June, a group of 13 girls have been meeting every Monday and Thursday to train for the 3 KM or 5 KM race. The training sessions include running laps, circuits and of course, active games.
At one of our last training sessions, every girl ran more than 5KM in a one hour time frame.
“It is so amazing to see the girls improve each and every week and to see their confidence grow around the track, that will hopefully transfer in their everyday life. We are so excited to get out and run on September 15,” said Jenna Hamilton, program coordinator.
This is the second year in a row that Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta has entered a group into the race.
