(Fort McMurray, AB) Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Syncrude are proud to announce the third nominee for the Women of Inspiration series.
Hilda Orr-Desjarlais
Hilda Orr-Desjarlais is the Administrative Assistant for Fort McKay School with the Northland School Division No. 61; but her time is spent doing much more than just filing papers and answering phones. In her many years with the school, Orr-Desjarlais has become a source of support and comfort for the students at the school, helping to facilitate counselling for those who need it and is often a shoulder for them to cry on during times of upset. For some, she is the reason they’re pursuing their interests and have become active in after school sports and activities – thanks to her encouragement, kind words, understanding, love and support.
Coworkers say Orr-Desjarlais has gone out of her way to make them feel very welcome at the school. Because of her many years served at Fort McKay school, she is an abundance of wisdom for new teachers about the students in the area. She’s been called a “quiet leader”; one who leads by example, but isn’t afraid to speak her mind when the moment calls for it.
She manages to balance her busy work life with her busy family and home life. Orr-Desjarlais became a mother for the first time at a young age, and since then, has provided a supportive and loving home to her children, and now her grandchildren; allowing them to grow into the best version of themselves they can be.
Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Syncrude will honour Orr-Desjarlais and eleven other Women of Inspiration nominees at the Women of Inspiration Gala which will take place in May 2013.
Girls Inc. would also like to announce that at the request of the public, the deadline for nominations has been extended to allow for more nominations to continue come in.
The Women of Inspiration Series is a partnership between Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Syncrude; with a goal to recognize women throughout the Wood Buffalo region who inspire others, break new ground or old barriers, and help create positive change. The series also aims to show local girls positive role models who live right here.
