We are seeking more Mentors for the Staying Strong Mentoring Program.
Staying Strong Group Mentoring program is facilitated by mentors with Girls Inc. Staff assistance from October to June meeting weekly for 2 hours. Mentors are asked to share in planning activities with the group on topics they feel will help build self-confidence, community awareness and general youth resiliency.
This program is group mentoring, which means each mentor will be placed with 3 mentees (ages 8-14). Meeting weekly on Wednesdays from 6:00- 800PM at the Girls Inc Office 10019 MacDonald Ave, Lower level of Unifor Office Building.
Dedication to the program is very important; please only consider becoming a mentor if you can commit to the program for the entire year. We will also provide training for our mentors, as well as a monthly meeting to discuss future sessions and how the program is going.
Applicants interested in becoming a mentor must committee the following agreement to:
-Make a commitment to the program (October – June )
-Attend training sessions
-Engage in the relationship with an open mind
– Be on time for scheduled meetings
-Keep discussions with youth confidential (except where youth’s safety or well-being is at risk)
–Ask for help when needed
-Accept guidance from program staff
-Notify staff if they are having difficulty in their mentoring relationship
-Notify the Girls Inc. Staff if they are unable to keep their weekly mentoring session
-Notify the Girls Inc. Staff of a significant change in group youth participants
-Refrain from contacting or seeing the mentee outside of the established parameters and supervised sites where the program takes place.
