28th Annual Golf Tournament Raises $20K

Fort McMurray, Alberta (September 27, 2022) — The 28th Annual Golf Tournament Fore Girls Inc. presented by Imperial raised $20,000 to support girls ages 6-18 in Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo. Golfers joined the organization on September 4 at Miskanaw Golf Club for a fun afternoon of golf, food, silent auction and prizes.

“Imperial is proud to sponsor Girls Inc. in providing integral programming to support women and girls with the knowledge and skills needed to break free from gender stereotypes, create social changes and be proud of who they are.” – Rita Karrel, Socioeconomic Advisor, Imperial

This year’s theme brought everyone together to celebrate frosh. We ate macaroni & cheese, played games, and did some networking while supporting girls ages 6-18 in Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo. The proceeds raised will be reinvested to help Girls Inc. continue to offer cost-free, girl-specific programming to girls in the region.

“With Covid restrictions lifted people have forgotten to network, we wanted to give them an opportunity to network but with a fun twist so the Frosh theme seemed the most appropriate. Together with Imperial, we came together to help girls in our community discover their potential and encouraged them to strive for new heights, taking positive risks and having fun along the way.  Since January 2022, we have served 1634 girls so far. We continue to strive to provide barrier-free programs ensuring that girls are encouraged to be an agent of change and inspiration.” – Sundas Shamshad, Interim Executive Director, Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta

This event would not be possible without everyone who signed on to be a sponsor, donated prizes and silent auction items, registered to golf and supported Girls Inc. along the way. Their support will impact the next generation of leaders by allowing the organization to equip girls with the knowledge and skills needed to break free from gender stereotypes, create social change and be proud of who they are.
