Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Bouchier Proudly Present Dianna De Sousa As The Final Woman of Inspiration For 2024/2025
Fort McMurray, AB – February 4, 2025 – Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Bouchier are thrilled to announce Dianna De Sousa as the latest recipient of the Woman of Inspiration title for the 2024-25 series. This recognition celebrates women in the region who demonstrate exceptional leadership, community impact, and commitment to inclusion and equality.
When asked how she felt about the nomination, Dianna expressed a mix of emotions: “Honestly, I feel like I’m not worthy. I’m overwhelmed, surprised, and, of course, very, very honoured.”
Dianna’s journey to Fort McMurray began with love and a leap of faith. Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, she relocated to Canada with her husband, whose career brought them to the region. As the CEO of the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce and a newly elected director of the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Canada, Dianna is a passionate advocate for change. Her leadership is rooted in championing inclusion and equality and creating meaningful opportunities for underrepresented groups. “It’s not something I go out to do—it’s just who I am,” she said, referencing her upbringing in the Caribbean, where she witnessed the challenges faced by diverse communities.
From spearheading initiatives like the upcoming Women in Leadership Summit and Coffee Connect for Pride to supporting Indigenous workforce development, De Sousa uses her platform to celebrate diversity and foster equity.
Reflecting on her biggest accomplishments, she cited revitalizing the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce. “When I took over, the chamber was nearly insolvent. We’ve rebuilt its financial strength and grown membership by over 50%. It’s been about leaving things better than you found them,” she said.
For Dianna, the three pillars of Girls Inc.—strong, smart, bold—resonate deeply. “Strong means having courage despite your fears. Smart is using resources and data to make the best decisions. And bold is going out and doing it.” Her advice to young girls? “Be who you are. Have a passion, learn from your mistakes, and never let others define you. You define you.”
De Sousa envisions a community where everyone feels welcome and supported, regardless of background or identity. She exemplifies what it means to lead with purpose and embodies the very essence of inspiration.
Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta, alongside Bouchier, celebrates Dianna De Sousa as a role model and change-maker who has paved the way for future generations of strong, smart, and bold leaders.
Dianna will join Lorraine Albert, Chantal Beaver, Nicole Deitz and Michelle Toner at LEADERS OF TODAY: Women of Inspiration Celebration 2024/2025, presented by Bouchier, in support of Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta, on March 8, 2025, at Shell Place, MacDonald Island.
