Second Woman of Inspiration named in 2020/21 Series

Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Bouchier is thrilled to announce the second nominee in the 2020/21 Women of Inspiration Series is Victoria Brown.

Brown is an HR professional by day and an entrepreneur by night.

She launched her clothing line last year, LIGHTS Apparel. The idea of the clothing line is to shine light on mental health— every time a clothing item is purchased from LIGHTS a portion of the money goes toward a local mental health initiative.

Brown is a single mother who has called Fort McMurray home for 12 years. She is no stranger to the struggles of mental health conditions, as she grew up in a small town in Newfoundland that had little to no mental health supports. Brown uses her lived experience and voice to help end the stigma surrounding mental illness.

She is noted to have a “tell like it is” attitude and inspires those around her to challenge the norms and be brave while pursuing their passions.

Her message to young girls across the Wood Buffalo Region is to get out of their comfort zones and remember not everyone comes from a place of privilege.

Brown and five other nominees will be recognized in March as part of our Women of Inspiration Celebration presented by Bouchier.
