Updated: Spotlight on STEM scholarship deadline extended

(Fort McMurray)– Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta is extending the deadline of Finning Canada STEM Award until January 31, 2020.

The two $1,000 scholarships are now open to all girls from the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) pursuing post-secondary education in STEM field for Fall 2020. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a young woman applying for or enrolled in a post-secondary school STEM program (in Canada or overseas). Preference will be given to a recipient who has previously participated in the Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta Operation S.M.A.R.T Program and lives within the RMWB.

The second $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an Indigenous young woman or someone with deep involvement in Indigenous communities, applying for or enrolled in a post-secondary school STEM program. Preference will be given to a recipient who has participated in Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta Operation SMART® and lives in the RMWB.

Finning has generously pledged $15,000 for September 2019-2021, $3,000 annually to help Girls Inc. deliver their Operation S.M.A.R.T Program and award two $1,000 scholarships per year to female students from the RMWB pursuing a post-secondary education in a STEM related field.
