Fort McMurray, AB (December 22, 2022) – Manjit Minhas, Entrepreneur, and CBC’s Dragons’ Den judge will headline Together: Women of Inspiration Celebration 2023 at MacDonald Island Park on March 11, presented by Bouchier, in support of Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta.
Manjit is the co-founder & co-owner of Minhas Breweries & Distillery which manufactures brands such as Huber Bock, Boxer Lager, and most recently Moneybag Vodka after a partnership with rock ‘n’ roll legend Gene Simmons. She began her company at 19, launching her brand of spirits in 1999 and beers in 2002 alongside her business partner and brother Ravinder Minhas.
In 2015, Manjit was approached by CBC to star/judge in their hit TV show Dragons’ Den. Aspiring entrepreneurs pitch their business concepts and products to six highly successful Canadian business moguls for a chance at financial support and guidance. Minhas has invested in over 30 businesses since her debut in the show’s tenth season.
“I’m thrilled to be chosen as this year’s Women of Inspiration Celebration keynote speaker. I firmly believe in the mission of Girls Inc., to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold. There can be no doubt that growing up to be a confident and strong woman paved the way for my current and future successes. I’m elated to have the opportunity to come up to Fort McMurray and speak with all of you.” – Manjit Minhas, co-owner of Minhas Brewery
From mopping floors in her parent’s store as a child to beer baroness of Alberta, Manjit will share her insights, struggles, and what made her the success she is today as the keynote speaker at Together: Women of Inspiration Celebration 2023.
“It’s an honour to have someone as iconic as Manjit come to our region to showcase what it means to be strong, smart and bold. Through Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and the Women of Inspiration initiative, we celebrate the female community builders and leaders in Wood Buffalo. Leading with inspiration, Manjit’s keynote address will help the women in our region come together to strengthen and empower one another while providing us with the courage to continue to thrive and break barriers.” Nicole Bourque Bouchier, Bouchier CEO & Co-Owner
TOGETHER: Women of Inspiration Celebration, presented by Bouchier, celebrates and honours five outstanding women of the Wood Buffalo region. These are individuals who are role models and inspirations to everyone they meet. They represent what it means to be strong, smart and bold – you can’t be, what you can’t see.
“It is so surreal to be able to head this wonderful celebration and commemorate five inspiring women when I was one of them just last year. These are women who are role models, inspirations, and icons.
Our Keynote speaker is one of the examples of inspiration, an award-winning entrepreneur, and Dragon Den’s Judge, who became an entrepreneur at the age of 19, a testament to taking positive risks and not letting your fears hold you in accomplishing your dreams. Her perseverance and drive have been an inspiration to girls and young women. Demonstrating success in a male-dominated industry shows our girls that you can be successful despite failures and struggles if you persevere and work hard to accomplish your goals.
In 2020, we ‘shattered’ the (in)visible barriers, stereotypes and obstacles surrounding the everyday life of girls and women. In 2021, we brought those shattered pieces together to create a ‘mosaic’ to act toward a more diverse, equitable and inclusive society. In 2022, we amplify one another’s VOICES represented in the mosaic. In 2023 we bring those voices ‘TOGETHER’. By working Together, let’s advocate for change and implement what we have learned from each other. “TOGETHER: to strengthen and empower.” – Sundas Shamshad, Interim Executive Director of Girls inc. of Northern Alberta.
“We are delighted to welcome Manjit Minhas back to the RMWB region. Manjit is a positive role model who inspires others through her confidence, purpose and drive. Manjit is breaking barriers in a male-dominated industry and is a remarkable representation of strong, smart, and bold that many females of all ages across this region can relate to.” Katie Erb, Corporate & Communications Specialist, Bouchier.
In previous years the evening has been described as ‘magical’ with this year’s celebration expected to be even more enchanting. Guests will hear the captivating words from keynote speaker Manjit Minhas, followed up by her answers to video-recorded questions from young girls in the region.
In-person guests will enjoy a delicious meal, welcome drinks, auctions, and various lineups of activities like a women-in-business bazaar, photo-booth, and more. Guests participating virtually will share the moment via livestream and take part online with an at-home celebration kit.
