(Fort McMurray) Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Syncrude are proud to announce the 11th nominee for the Women of Inspiration series 2014-2015:
Dawn Booth
Dawn arrived in Fort McMurray in 2007 and joined the Fort McMurray Today as the special features editor a few months later .Dawn is a well- respected journalist, president of the Fort McMurray Environment Committee, owner of Media Booth and generally passionate about promoting her community.
Dawn went on to co-found and launches the monthly newspaper snapd Wood Buffalo in 2011. Dawn has become a community champion and loves to highlight Fort McMurray’s diverse population. Dawn was a great help in promoting World Hijab day and was a part of the team that saw 200 women participate in this special event.
Dawn was recognized by the weekly Connect and was named one of their annual Top 40 under 40.
Dawn works for positive change and is very involved in Environment Week activities. Dawn maintains the social media portals to keep the community well informed. Each year since 2009, Dawn initiates the annual Tower Road Clean-up. She does not get discouraged but through perseverance keeps working to promote and maintain the natural beauty of our community.
At an early age Dawn was attracted to the wisdom and knowledge of the Algonguins in Ontario. She learned many of their crafting and hunting skills. She brought this interest with her and travelled to Fort Chipewyan and through meetings with local Metis members, she learned of their history and went on to highlight and share their positive impact on the RMWB.
Dawn is a strong believer in creating community through harmony, diligence and equality for all. Be it her enthusiasm for maintaining a healthy environment or be it through promoting our strength through our diversity, Dawn is bar-non a Woman of Inspiration.
Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Syncrude will honour Dawn and 11 other nominees, at the Women of Inspiration Celebration which will take place Sunday June 21st, 2015 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 165, 9317 Huggard St, Fort McMurray, an Afternoon Tea: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM Tickets: $50 each, $450 for a table. The Women of Inspiration is a partnership between Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Syncrude, with a goal to recognize women throughout the Wood Buffalo region who inspire others, break new ground or old barriers and help create change. The series also aims to show local girls positive role models who live right here.
